Cairo hosted MCSD

30.09.2009

On 28-30 September 2009, Cairo hosted the 13th Meeting of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD). The main theme of the meeting was the “Climate Change Adaptation Experiences and Strategies in the Mediterranean”. The experiences of Mediterranean countries in climate change adaptation were presented and discussed including the experiences from other UN conventions or programmes, such as UNFCCC, UNEP, UNEP/GEF, and the World Bank.

During the breakout sessions priorities, opportunities and constraints at the local, national and regional level were discussed and concrete activities proposed. The inputs of the MCSD to the Marrakech Declaration to be adopted by the next Contracting Parties meeting were also discussed. The MCSD Thematic Work Programme for 2010-2011 was adopted and Montenegro kindly offered to host the next MCSD meeting in 2011.
