CAMP Almeria in its final stage

30.05.2012

The CAMP Levante de Almeria Integration workshop on preparation of the final project document, i.e. the Sustainable Development Reference Framework (SDRF), took place in Almeria, on 28 May 2012. The workshop was attended by 60-odd participants, including observers from the Coastal Council, technical delegates from the Coastal Commission, experts from various institutions that were involved in the development of individual projects and the CAMP staff and team leaders.

The workshop was opened by Ms. Sonia Rodríguez, Provincial Delegate for Environment, and Mr. José María Garrido, Chair of the Coastal Council. At the beginning of the session, a video on CAMP (lasting 22 minutes and available in Spanish only) was presented summarising the work done from the beginning of the CAMP to date. The morning session was dedicated to presentations, which were followed by the discussion on measures and actions proposed by individual activities. In the afternoon, four workshops were organised, each focusing on one of the four main objectives of the SDRF, namely: water resources, territory and spatial development, best practices for the economic activities (agriculture, tourism, fisheries, renewable energy and waste) and the governance. The plenary session summarised the results and proposed a way of drafting the SDRF. The conclusion of the plenary was that the contents of the SDRF would bring two major messages derived from the CAMP, i.e. the integration and the consensus, as a major contribution for the future management of the coastal area.

On 29 May, the 5th Steering Committee meeting on the CAMP project took place. The meeting discussed various issues related to the organisation and implementation of the CAMP, such as the progress report, the SDRF structure and contents, the participatory process, planning of the future events, the post-project phase and funding issues, the budget report, dissemination of the video and the date and the agenda of the Final Project Conference to be held in the week 17-21 in September this year. Prior to the Final Conference, a Coastal Council meeting and a meeting of the Coastal Commission will be organised on 21 June and on 10 July, respectively, in order to verify the SDRF and to agree on the measures proposed.
