Being an active partner in preparations for the ICZM Protocol ratification and promotion of ICZM in the country the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Spatial Planning and Construction in Croatia organised in collaboration with GTZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit) an IAS kick-off meeting and an ICZM seminar. The kick-off meeting for the preparation of the "Impact Assessment Study (IAS) of the ICZM Protocol for Croatia“ took place in Zagreb, on 13 January 2010. The preparation of the Study has been initiated by the Ministry in collaboration with GTZ. Thanks to its long-term experience with ICZM, PAP/RAC has been given responsibility for the overall co-ordination of the Study development. The main objectives of the Study would be to identify and evaluate the impacts of the ICZM Protocol on existing legislation, administrative structures and coastal management processes and conditions in Croatia. It is expected that the final draft of the IAS of the ICZM Protocol for Croatia would be finished in June 2010.
The important seminar on ICZM in Croatia took place also in Zagreb, on 14 and 15 January. The main objective of the seminar was to raise the ICZM capacities of different ministries dealing with management of coastal areas. Important introductory lectures on ICZM, its good practice examples and ICZM Protocol were delivered by PAP/RAC representatives. The seminar was attended by thirty high-level representatives from all the relevant ministries, including the members of the newly founded ICZM Inter-ministerial committee. The participants expressed their interest in the next seminar, which would be more focused on ICZM Protocol and specific ICZM tools and methodologies.
