PAP/RAC actively contributes to MedProgramme outreach workshops in Morocco

On 5 May 2026, PAP/RAC participated in the MedProgramme National Outreach Workshop held in Rabat, organised by Morocco's Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development (Département du Développement Durable). The one-day event brought together around thirty representatives of national institutions and organisations involved in environmental policy, natural resource planning and management. The workshop aimed to enhance the visibility of the MedProgramme at the national level, identify synergies with relevant national initiatives, and gather integrated solutions with high replication potential, contributing to the development of a National Replication Atlas for Morocco.

During the morning session, PAP/RAC delivered presentations on two key areas of its work under the MedProgramme: the Schéma Régional du Littoral of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region (SRL TTA), as well as climate change adaptation mainstreaming in the plan — covering nature-based solutions, participatory planning, gender-responsive approaches, and cost-benefit analysis. These contributions highlighted how integrated coastal management tools can support national climate resilience strategies.

In the afternoon, PAP/RAC facilitated Session 5, dedicated to the participatory identification of actions for the National Replication Atlas. This discussion allowed participants to collectively pinpoint priority intervention areas ("hotspots") and explore scaling opportunities aligned with MedProgramme sub-projects and national strategic priorities, as well as the upcoming ninth phase of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The following day, 6 May 2026, PAP/RAC participated in a regional-level workshop held in Tangier, organised under the auspices of the Ministry and the Regional Directorate of the Environment for the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (TTA) region, alongside UNEP/MAP, PAP/RAC and GWP-Med, within the framework of MedProgramme Child Projects 2.1 and 2.2.

PAP/RAC convened and led the morning session on the Schéma Régional du Littoral (SRL TTA), covering the transition from the MedProgramme framework to the national obligations of the SRL, the presentation of the integrated diagnostic (Mission I), the integration work across the diagnostic's key axes, and the roadmap towards Mission II — with an open discussion with all regional stakeholders. In the afternoon, GWP-Med presented the state of play of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus Dialogue in the TTA region. The event was structured around two back-to-back thematic blocks designed to maximise synergies for regional sustainable development to identify the best synergies between coastal and Nexus approaches for integrated management from source to sea.

These two workshops confirmed PAP/RAC's central role in advancing integrated coastal planning, governance and climate adaptation in the Mediterranean, while reinforcing collaboration with Morocco's national and regional partners under the MedProgramme.
