On 18 March 2026, PAP/RAC participated in the workshop of the Adapt Pelagos project, held by Plan Bleu at the University of Toulon, focusing on advancing governance for sustainable tourism within the Pelagos Sanctuary.
On this occasion, PAP/RAC took part in a roundtable dedicated to linking tourism uses with coastal conservation challenges. During this session, PAP/RAC presented the Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) of the Barcelona Convention as a key legal framework for reconciling tourism development, ecosystem preservation, and climate change adaptation in the Mediterranean.
PAP/RAC also highlighted the importance of its integrated approach, which seeks to overcome sectoral silos by bringing together stakeholders from tourism, spatial planning, and environmental conservation around a shared vision. The value of participatory tools such as the Climagine method, developed by Plan Bleu with the support of PAP/RAC, was emphasized as a way to support territories in planning and decision-making processes, while integrating long-term climate considerations.
Discussions confirmed the need to strengthen coordination between public policies and to develop shared governance tools in order to address the growing pressures of tourism on Mediterranean coastal areas.
This participation reflects PAP/RAC’s ongoing commitment to promoting integrated and sustainable coastal zone management, supporting Mediterranean countries in the implementation of the ICZM Protocol.
