The 2nd Steering Committee meeting of the EU-funded EcAp Med PLUS Project was held in Athens, Greece, bringing together project partners to review progress, budget implementation, and future planning.
Discussions focused on achievements to date, updates to the workplan and communication strategy, and the development of a concept note for a follow-up initiative on EcAp implementation (EcAp Med 2030). PAP/RAC presented progress and budget updates for activities in Egypt, Lebanon and at the regional scale.
During a joint session with related EU-funded projects (SEMPA and Marine Litter Med PLUS), synergies with broader UNEP/MAP activities were highlighted, including support under the GEF MedProgramme and GEF Adriatic. Emphasis was placed on coordination among MAP components and best practices that strengthen governance at national level, particularly in monitoring and assessment.
The next Steering Committee meeting is scheduled online for September 2026, where a potential 6–9 month project extension will be considered.
An ad hoc meeting of the EcAp Task Force followed, addressing key topics such as the roadmap for the 2031 Mediterranean Quality Status Report, planning of CORMON meetings for 2026–2027, and the development of assessment criteria.
PAP/RAC presented the agenda for the upcoming CORMON meeting (30 September–1 October 2026, online), highlighting its scope and complexity. The meeting will cover multiple technical outputs, including assessment criteria for Common Indicator 25 (Land Cover Change), data standards, and new climate change indicators, making it the most demanding CORMON session to date.
